Dear Editor,
Congress is considering land swap legislation specifically denying U.S. citizens the right to publicly express their views about a copper mine proposed at the Oak Flats U.S. Forest Service campground near Superior. So significant are the area’s environmental and cultural values that both Presidents Eisenhower and Nixon issued Executive Orders saying the area should never be mined.
Bu the two richest mining companies in the world, one British and one Australian, are buttering their way through Congress on this land swap.
These companies have inflicted horrendous human rights and environmental harms worldwide.
The law they have spearheaded in Congress forbids the Forest Service from letting the public know the environmental and cultural harms involved.
Many say we have the best Congress money can buy. Senators McCain and Kyl and Rep. Kirkpatrick are sponsors of this cultural/environmental holocaust.
