Mining Rocks block party was a great success
Posted: Wednesday, Sep 2nd, 2009

Dear Editor,

The Mining Rocks block party was a great success on Aug. 21. What a great sight to have so many residents of all ages downtown celebrating the importance of mining in our community. Having the booths lining the street was a great part of the evening’s success and the Globe-Miami Chamber of Commerce and Southern Gila County Economic Development Corporation would like to thank everyone for their efforts on this event.

We know how hard it is to put the volunteers and materials together to make an event like this happen. We hope to make this an annual event, one that becomes bigger by the year. We know that with the contributions of groups such as those that participated this year, bigger and better will certainly be the case.

This event is a small way to thank our local mining entities for the many and varied contributions they have made to the community over the years. Special thanks go to the mining entities that participated in this event: BHP Pinto Valley Operations, Carlota Copper, Freeport McMoRan, Resolution Copper and Rosemont Copper. Several contractors were key in both helping put on the event and in displaying equipment as a show of support for the industry. They include Dalmolin Excavating, Sullivan Paving and Earth Mover Tire. Several local businesses either participated with a booth or by having coupons available for the public. Displays by Globe Fire Department, Tri-City Fire Department and the Gila County Sheriff’s Office added to the evening.

The copper splash donated by Freeport was won by Rick Powers and the powder box replica went to Edd Dawson. Thank you to the many people who purchased tickets on this chamber fundraiser, which helped us defray costs of the event.

Dalmolin Excavating, Golder Associates, Freeport McMoRan, Resolution Copper and Here’s Your Sign were especially instrumental in making this event a success. We deeply appreciate their efforts. Space limitations prohibit us from mentioning everyone who helped with this event, but please know we are grateful for all your contributions. Thanks to the local media which did a wonderful job of helping publicize the event.

And again, our thanks to the many groups that participated for putting forth the time and effort to make this first Mining Rocks event a success. We’ve always said and you’ve proved it again: Globe-Miami Rocks!

Sincerely,

Ellen Kretsch,

Globe-Miami Chamber

Bill Marshall, SGCEDC
