Consuelo Peña Curiel passed away peacefully in her sleep surrounded by family at the age of 95 on September 14 in Tucson, Arizona. Mrs. Curiel was born June 9, 1928, in Miami, Arizona, to Soledad Andrade and Guadalupe Peña. She lived in Miami until 1932 when her family moved to Atenguillo, Jalisco, Mexico. After her marriage in 1950 to Eligio Curiel, they returned to Miami, Arizona. 

Consuelo was a loving mother and talented seamstress. After her youngest child started school, she was employed at the Gomez Tortilla Factory and later with the Miami School District working in the high school cafeteria. In her retirement years, Consuelo enjoyed her family, sewing, needlework, and reading.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Eligio, and a son, Daniel Curiel. She is survived by seven other children: Bertha Esparza (Michael) of Tucson, Arizona; Michael Curiel (Susan) of Fort Collins, Colorado; Eli Curiel (Sylvia) of Tucson, Arizona; John Curiel (Elaine) of Show Low, Arizona; Rosemary Castellanos (Thomas) of Tempe, Arizona; Albert Curiel of Globe, Arizona; and Louis Curiel of Tucson, Arizona. Also surviving her are 16 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. Consuelo is also survived by her sister Lola of Yuba City, California, and her brother Agustine of Globe, Arizona.

Services and celebration of her life were held at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 844 Sullivan St., Miami, Arizona, on Sept. 25, 2023, with viewing at 9:30 a.m., Rosary at 10:30 a.m. and Mass at 11 a.m. Burial followed at Mountain Breeze Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
