Jim passed away peacefully on Aug. 28, 2023, at Cobre Valley Regional Medical Center in Globe. He was born in Moorhead, Mississippi, in 1942. Later, his family moved to Artesia, New Mexico, where he grew up and attended elementary school and high school. 

He enlisted in the US Army in 1963 and served during the Vietnam era, but he was stationed in Germany for most of his enlistment.

After Jim was discharged from the military, he attended New Mexico University and earned himself three degrees. While attending the university, he became interested in drag racing, which he did during the summer months when he was not in school. Jim also taught school for one year before accepting a position with General Motors. After retiring from General Motors, Jim started his own consulting business investigating accidents. At that time, he still did a lot of work for GM, where they sent him to places all over the world, such as Alaska, Hawaii and Dubai, just to mention a few. 

Jim has resided in Miami, Arizona, for approximately 18 years. When his health permitted, he enjoyed attending St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Globe, Arizona. He was very active in the community. Jim served on the hospital board and put on car shows to raise money for various entities. 

He remained a car enthusiast his entire life and could often be seen driving his black 1932 Ford Roadster that he also enjoyed entering in car shows. 

Jim was liked and admired by a great number of people. He was truly a special man, and he will surely be missed by many. 

A Memorial Service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 9, 2023, at the Lamont Mortuary Chapel in Globe, Arizona.
