GHS Cheer Team wins state again

Forest Service updates public on Apache Leap area

Superior -- The Tonto National Forest Service held a meeting at the Superior Town Hall on Thursday, Jan. 12 to discuss the Apache Leap Special Management Area Plan. It's an area approximately 807 acres large, consisting of two land parcels: 697 acres belong to Tonto National Forest and 110 acres belong to Resolution Copper.

Globe -- On Thursday, Jan. 5 at about 10:35 a.m., an armed subject robbed the Fast Auto Loans on Highway 60. The suspect fled the area with a small amount of cash.

Gila County -- On Jan. 1 at approximately 2:59 p.m., the Gila County Sheriff's Office received a call from the Arizona Department of Public Safety requesting assistance regarding an abandoned vehicle in a pull out at MP 296.2 in the Salt River Canyon.

Account set up for man who lost home in fire

The Tri-City Fire District and the Globe Fire Department were dispatched at 7:40 p.m. on Dec. 23 to the 5400 block of Pinal Canyon Road for a structure fire. The first arriving fire units found a single-family home fully involved by fire.

AZ Water, Globe agreement is finalized

Phoenix -- One of the biggest stories of the year 2016 occurred on Dec. 20, 2016, when the Arizona Corporation Commission in Phoenix finally gave its approval to the agreement settling the long, bitter and costly dispute between the City of Globe and the Arizona Water.

Miami amends sewer account regulations

Miami -- On Dec. 27, the Miami Town Council approved Ordinance No. 349, which amends the Miami Town Code, specifically sewer accounts.
This is another way to help the town collect on delinquent sewer accounts. There are currently about 400 past due accounts totaling more than $250,000.

Nearly $15,000 raised for Garcia memorial fund

Superior -- As of press time on Monday afternoon, 231 people had raised $14,370 for the Julissa Rose Garcia Memorial Fund. Julissa was a Superior High School freshman who died from injuries suffered in an ATV accident on Dec. 28.

Woman sentenced for assaulting police officer

Payson -- Gila County Attorney Bradley D. Beauchamp announced that on Nov. 14, 2016, 50-year-old Kathleen Mensch was sentenced to the Arizona Department of Corrections by the Honorable Timothy M. Wright. Mensch previously pled guilty on Oct. 17, 2016, to Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer, a class 5 felony, and Extreme DUI, a class 1 misdemeanor.

Supervisors recognized for service

Globe -- Outgoing Gila County Supervisors Mike Pastor and John Marcanti were recognized for their years of service to the County at the Board of Supervisors meeting on Dec. 20 in Globe. It was also the last meeting for County Manager Don McDaniel, who will retire at the end of December.
