No injuries as molten copper breaches at Freeport

Miami -- Freeport McMoRan avoided a major disaster on the evening of Wednesday, Nov. 12. Molten copper got loose and caused the smelter building to catch fire. Luckily, there were no injuries. Eric Kinneberg, Freeport's director of external communications, issued the following statement to the Silver Belt on Thursday:

Gonzales sentenced to 8.5 years for child abuse of 3-year-old daughter

Globe -- Gila County Attorney Bradley D. Beauchamp announced that on Nov. 10, 31 year-old Globe resident Francisco Duran Gonzales was sentenced by the Honorable Gary V. Scales to 8.5 years incarceration in the Arizona Department of Corrections for Child Abuse.
Gonzales was previously convicted of Felony Child Abuse following a five day jury trial on Oct.

Man dies in one vehicle accident

Globe -- On Nov. 5, 2014 at 2:04 p.m., Globe Police and Fire personnel responded to Highway 60 near milepost 251 in reference to a one-vehicle accident. Upon arrival, first responders discovered the driver of the involved vehicle was unresponsive. Medical personnel attempted to resuscitate the driver, without success. Search warrant results in 10 arrests

Claypool -- On Nov. 3, two search warrants were executed at a residence on Calle De Loma in Claypool and the second warrant at a residence on Golden Hill Road in Central Heights. The Gila County Drug, Gang, and Violent Crimes Task Force seized approximately 35 grams of Methamphetamine, 2 grams of marijuana, and numerous drug paraphernalia items.

County releases unofficial election results

Globe -- The Gila County Sheriff's Office has released unofficial results from the General Election held on Nov. 4.
Eric Mariscal of the Gila County Elections Department told the Silver Belt on Monday afternoon that all the early ballots had been tabulated, but some provisional ballots still needed to be counted.

CVCA hopes elevator will be running by Valentine’s Day

Globe -- Work is underway on an elevator at the Cobre Valley Center for the Arts in downtown Globe.
