Groundbreaking for Apache Sky Casino

Aravaipa -- Apache Sky Casino held their groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday, Feb. 4 in beautiful Aravaipa.
The new casino, an endeavor of the San Carlos Apache Tribe, is scheduled to open sometime in June with construction starting in approximately 3 weeks.

Verdugo sentenced to 21 years

Globe -- On Jan. 12 at the Gila County Courthouse in Globe, the honorable Jason R. Holmberg sentenced Robert Verdugo to the maximum sentence, 21 years.
On Dec. 10, 2015, a Gila County jury convicted Verdugo of manslaughter in the 2010 stabbing death of Scott Johnson. Manslaughter carries a mandatory sentence of seven to 21 years.
