Sheriff’s Office responds to bomb threat

Gila County -- On Friday, Sept. 5, at approximately 2:49 p.m., the Gila County Sheriff's Office received information from another law enforcement agency that there was a bomb placed at the Courthouse in Payson. Washington -- The Environmental Protection Agency set new limits Wednesday on emissions from six Arizona industrial facilities in order to reduce haze at 17 national parks and wilderness areas, including the Grand Canyon.

Supervisors approve armed security guards at Gila County Courthouse

Globe -- At the Gila County Board of Supervisors meeting on Sept. 2, the board unanimously approved hiring two armed guards to provide security at the Gila County Courthouse.
The country will sign a contract with Blackstone Security Services, which will provide two armed guards during business hours for one year (Aug. 15, 2014 through Aug. 14, 2015) for $82,750.

Primary Election results announced

Gila County -- The Gila County Elections Office released unofficial results from the Aug. 26 Primary Election.
In the race for Globe Regional Court Justice of the Peace, Jesse Bolinger narrowly defeated incumbent Gary Goetteman in the Democratic Primary. Bolinger had 948 votes, while Goetteman had 930. There were no Republican candidates.

Auditor criticizes Miami’s bookkeeping

Miami -- The Miami Town Council heard some grim news from its auditor during last Monday's meeting. Scott Powell, representing the town's independent auditor, Colby and Powell PLC, had just finished inspecting what he could for the fiscal year ending in 2011.
