The Globe High School cheer team won the state title in Coed Division II at Gilbert High School on Jan. 14. Superior -- The Tonto National Forest Service held a meeting at the Superior Town Hall on Thursday, Jan. 12 to discuss the Apache Leap Special Management Area Plan. It's an area approximately 807 acres large, consisting of two land parcels: 697 acres belong to Tonto National Forest and 110 acres belong to Resolution Copper.

The Tri-City Fire District and the Globe Fire Department were dispatched at 7:40 p.m. on Dec. 23 to the 5400 block of Pinal Canyon Road for a structure fire. The first arriving fire units found a single-family home fully involved by fire. ...more

Miami -- On Dec. 27, the Miami Town Council approved Ordinance No. 349, which amends the Miami Town Code, specifically sewer accounts.

Payson -- Gila County Attorney Bradley D. Beauchamp announced that on Nov. 14, 2016, 50-year-old Kathleen Mensch was sentenced to the Arizona Department of Corrections by the Honorable Timothy M. Wright. Mensch previously pled guilty on Oct. 17, 2016, to Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer, a class 5 felony, and Extreme DUI, a class 1 misdemeanor.

Globe -- Outgoing Gila County Supervisors Mike Pastor and John Marcanti were recognized for their years of service to the County at the Board of Supervisors meeting on Dec. 20 in Globe. It was also the last meeting for County Manager Don McDaniel, who will retire at the end of December.
