Globe approves roof work at Center for the Arts

Globe -- The Gila County Board of Supervisors discussed Secure Rural Schools funding and proposed amendments to the Gila County Floodplain Management Ordinance at a regular meeting on Aug. 17 in Globe.
Gila County Schools Superintendent Linda O'Dell appealed to the board from Payson to approve the distribution of federal Secure Rural Schools funds to school districts in Gila County.

Wheatfields burglary leads to arrest of Young man

Wheatfields -- A Young man faces burglary charges in connection with a burglary that occurred in the Wheatfields area.
On Aug. 13 at approximately 4:23 p.m., the Gila County Sheriff's Office received a phone call regarding a burglary at a residence in the Wheatfields area. The victim was able to identify the suspect through photos.

Man gets 17 years for killing neighbor

Payson -- Gila County Attorney Bradley D. Beauchamp announced that on Aug. 7, the Honorable Gary V. Scales sentenced 73-year-old Michael Voden to 17 years in prison for killing his neighbor. On May 29, 2015, following a six-day trial, a jury had convicted Voden of Manslaughter.

Globe -- A local man faces charges of Second Degree Murder, three counts of Aggravated Assault and DUI in connection with a fatal traffic accident that occurred early Saturday morning on Ice House Canyon Road in Globe.
