Suspects charged with armed robbery

Globe -- Two Globe men face charges in connection with two armed robberies that occurred at AM/PM in November 2015.
The charges came about after the Globe Police Department, along with the Gila County Sheriff's Office, served a search warrant at a residence in the area off of Globe Canyon on the morning of Aug. 19.

CCYS Flag Football held its 2016 playoffs on Friday and Saturday. The semifinal games were held Friday at the Globe Community Center. In the Division 2 semifinals, the Panthers defeated the Raiders and the Cardinals bested the Steelers. Ellison wins 2nd medal; Dorman earns silver

Rio -- Brady Ellison, of Globe, won his second medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics by winning the bronze medal in Men's Individual Archery.
Sam Dorman, grandson of Fito Trujillo, won a silver medal in the Men's Synchronized 3m Springboard. Dorman's partner for the event was Michael Hixon.

Palace Pharmacy bought by CVS

Globe -- At the Globe City Council meeting on Aug. 9, City Manager Paul Jepson announced that Vaden Corporation, the owner of Palace Pharmacy in downtown Globe, has sold the business to CVS.The council approved a 15-year lease between CVS and the city, which owns the building that houses the pharmacy at 100 N. Broad St.

Board of Supervisors approves sidewalk on Main Street in Central Heights

Gila County ― At the Gila County Board of Supervisors meeting on Aug. 2, the county adopted a resolution agreement between ADOT and Gila County for the construction of a sidewalk starting at US 60 and Russell Road. Pinto Valley expansion?

Miami -- When Capstone Mining Corporation released its second quarter financial results last week, stockholders were told the company was looking at a possible expansion of its Pinto Valley Mine west of Miami because of record copper production there. The Pinto Valley mine, which employs some 550 persons, is one of three copper mines owned by Vancouver-based Capstone Mining.

Gila County ― The Gila County Board of Supervisors held a special meeting regarding the fiscal year 2016-17 Budget on July 26.
The board adopted the FY 2016-17 budget in the amount of $94 million.

Sheriff’s Office seeks suspect

Central Heights -- On July 29 at approximately 3:27 p.m., the Gila County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call in reference to two females who were walking on Braley Street in Central Heights.
They were approached from behind by the suspect, who was later identified as Donald Wayne Huggins Jr., 35.
