Globe — Vice Mayor Eric Mariscal chaired the Globe Council meeting Monday night as Mayor Wheeler was under the weather. Councilman Mike Humphrey was out of town.
Under new business, the council heard an evaluation report from Interim City Manager Cynthia Seelhammer on the city’s handling of the recent water incident. Both she and the council complimented the city’s entire staff on pulling together to get the word out and getting the situation resolved.
The city department heads met with County Emergency Manager and Public Health Director Michael O’Driscoll, who said, “Generally, the response was excellent.” His staff has met with the city staff for training on lessons learned, how to improve future responses, including the need for getting the word out, and including the county in the earliest organizational meetings.
When asked about using the Emergency Broadcast System, the county staff said that a water alert does not rise to the level of emergency. The city would need to issue a declaration of a state of emergency in order to trigger use of the EBS.
