Globe — VFW Post 1704, American Legion Henry Barry Post 4 and the Pinal Mountain Elks Club held a Veterans Day ceremony on Sunday morning at Globe city park.

John Imhoff, the American Legion second vice commander and chaplain, started the ceremony with the history of Veterans Day, which originally was called Armistice Day and celebrated the signing of the treaty that ended World War I. Then Ann Lettner, president of the VFW women’s auxiliary, and Mary Crow, past president of the Pinal Mountain Elks Club, each presented a wreath of honor to remember those who have died while serving our country.

More than a few tears were shed as seven veterans fired off a 21-gun salute and Cruz Mendoza then played an emotional version of “Taps.”
