Globe — Big box stores this year changed the game plan for Black Friday, getting started a day early. While last year, Walmart’s Black Friday enthusiasts were able to enter the store at midnight on Black Friday to start snatching up deals, this year shoppers were able to shop in three rounds of hot deals, starting at 8 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day, continuing at 10 p.m. with TVs, cameras, and other electronics and then finishing up with more big ticket items going on sale at 5 a.m. on Black Friday morning.

If the idea was to ease the crowded experience of Black Friday shopping, it was to no avail at Globe’s local store, which was packed by 8 p.m. Those arriving at 8 p.m. found no shopping carts inside the otherwise filled cart section. Despite countless proclamations of “Never again!” and “It’s not worth it!” shoppers returned again for another rat race through the maze of aisles, some blocked off with caution tape and “Do Not Enter” signs, others housing the treasured sale items and lines of people willing to wait a few hours in one spot.

Once again, the team strategy proved the most effective for those with a slightly longer wish list. As always, the Globe Police Department was onsite to help the herding of the crowds.
