Posted: Wednesday, Nov 18th, 2009

MIAMI — There was no Miami Council meeting this past Monday, but last week’s meeting helped put the Town on a better financial footing due to some outside help. (The meeting was held Tuesday, Nov. 10, and the Silver Belt had already gone to press due to Veterans Day).

Mayor Chuy Canizales reported that he had met with Governor Jan Brewer and requested Miami be designated a state of emergency until it receives Arizona Water Infrastructure and Finance Authority grant monies. The town requested $50,000 worth of software to set up programs to run the sewer system. They are awaiting an answer.

Supervisor Mike Pastor was in the audience and reported that U.S. Congressman and former resident Ed Pastor had reported to him (Supervisor Pastor) that the EPA Bill providing $220,000 for the Town had been signed the Friday before. That money will be used to buy a new grit separator for the sewer system.
