GLOBE ― The Globe Fire Department responded to a report of a house on fire on Tuesday, Nov. 17, at 9:13 a.m. First arriving units found heavy fire and smoke in the attic and fire involvement to approximately 50 percent of the structure. An initial attack was attempted, but due to the amount of fire involvement, a defensive mode was called. Firefighters had to deal with some hazards during the operation due to several explosions from barbecue propane bottles and live power lines on the ground.
Assistance to the fire was rendered by Tri-City Fire Department and Canyon Fire Department. A total of 17 firefighters responded with no reported injuries. An investigation completed by the Globe Fire Department found the fire was accidental due to a heater appliance malfunction. The American Red Cross was on scene immediately to render assistance.
The Globe Fire Department would like to remind the community about their “Smoke Detector Program.” As the winter season begins, make sure that you check or install a smoke detector in various locations in your home. Smoke detectors are available at the station through this program at 131 W. Cedar upon request.
Assistance for the family affected was provided by the Globe Fire Department’s Burn Fund.
