Miami -- The Miami Vandals opened the 2016 season with a 34-12 loss to Pima on Friday.

Lady Vandals aim for winning season

Miami -- The Lady Vandals have been preparing for the upcoming volleyball season throughout the summer. Miami participated in four tournaments and two camps.
Coach Rachel Mawson told the Silver Belt that this season will be a little bit tougher. The Vandals have to play against some private schools and the region all around is tougher.

Flag Football Playoffs start Friday at the Community Center

Pinal Mountain All-Stars advance to state quarterfinals

The Pinal Mountain 11-12 Baseball All-Stars, representing the Globe-Miami area, made it to the quarterfinals of the state tournament. In pool play, Pinal Mountain defeated West Flagstaff 6-2, Lake Havasu South 10-0, and Casa Grande 9-1, and lost 6-5 to Western. That advanced the team to the single elimination tournament. Globe softball players win championship with Willcox Khaos

Willcox -- Devarae Escobedo, Bethanie Hudson and Corrinn Van Buskirk are former Phoenix Hammer softball players who joined the Willcox Khaos softball team this summer. Khaos played in the Gila Valley league in Safford. The team was undefeated this entire season. They won the championship game on July 27 against Safford Green Machine; the final score was 6-4.
