Miami baseball team advances to quarterfinals of state tournament

hoenix -- Three wins separate the Miami baseball team from a state title.
The No. 6 Vandals advanced to the quarterfinals of the Division V state tournament with an 11-1, five-inning win over No. 11 St. Augustine on Saturday afternoon.

Tigers fall in first round

Phoenix -- The best season by the Globe softball team in recent memory ended Friday with an 11-1 loss to Tanque Verde in the first round of the Division IV state tournament.
The Tigers finished with a 17-9 record, which was their second winning season in a row. Just two years ago, Globe won only 6 games.

Vandals close in on conference championship

Miami -- The Miami baseball team won all three of its games last week, outscoring its opponents 36-1 in the process.
First was a 17-0 victory over Duncan on April 19. Diego Garcia picked up the win in that game.

Tigers’ winning streak now at three games

Globe -- The Globe softball team now sports a three-game winning streak after winning two games last week.
The Tigers defeated Benjamin Franklin 8-5 on April 20, and then beat Horizon Honors 13-6 on Friday.
According to azpreps365.com, as of press time, Globe's record was 12-5 overall and 4-2 in conference play (Division IV, Section V).

Gila County -- On April 2, 2016 our local Special Olympic program traveled to Safford for the day to compete in a Track and Field competition. We will be going to Glendale for the State Track & Field Meet from May 5-7.

Vandals place second at Morenci Lions Invitational

Morenci -- The Miami baseball team had an impressive showing over the weekend at the Morenci Lions Invitational.
The Vandals started the tournament with a tough 3-2 loss to Konowa. Miami then reeled off four straight wins: 9-5 over Wilcox, 8-5 over Thatcher, 12-0 over St. Johns, and in the semifinal, an 8-6 win over Konowa.

Dunning wins GCC’s Ruin to Ruin 5K

As part of its Arbor Day celebration on Saturday, Gila Community College held its third annual Ruin to Ruin 5K. Twenty-seven people took part in the race. Globe baseball wins one of three games

Nathaniel Sharette takes a lead off second base during Globe's 12-2 win over Benjamin Franklin on Thursday. On April 4, the Tigers lost 20-9 to Santa Cruz Valley. On April 5, Globe lost 14-7 at Florence. The Tigers' record is now 8-10 and they are 2-2 in section play. The Tigers host Gilbert Classical Academy on Friday, April 15.

Miami baseball has impressive week

Miami -- The Miami baseball team picked up two impressive wins last week. First, the Vandals defeated No. 1-ranked Pima, 7-3, on April 5. Logan Peery picked up the win.
Then on Thursday, Miami shut out Superior, 11-0, with Armando Garcia as the winning pitcher.
