Vandals Baseball wins continue with 21-0 victory over Fort Thomas

Miami -- The Miami baseball team continued its strong play last week, winning two of three games.
After falling 12-5 to San Manuel on Tuesday, the Vandals defeated host Superior 5-2 on Thursday and then racked up a blowout 21-0 win over visiting Fort Thomas on Friday. Miami's record is now 12-6.

Marin wins age group at Scottsdale half marathon

Marc Marin of Globe ran in his first-ever half marathon on Sunday morning, the inaugural Scottsdale Challenge. Marin finished in 1 hour, 46 minutes, good for 42nd place overall out of 401 runners, and first out of 21 runners in his age group (30-34).

CCYS Football registration begins April 18

Globe -- Registration for CCYS flag football will be held at Fry's on the following days:
• Saturday, April 18 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
• Sunday, April 19 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Claypool -- Pinal Mountain Little League held its opening ceremony on Monday, March 30.
Following the National Anthem and Pledge of Allegiance, players released balloons and the players, coaches, and all of those in attendance observed a moment of silence for Gerry Kohlbeck.

Miami pitcher Mando Garcia helped hold Duncan to zero runs during the Vandals' 19-0 win over the Wildkats on Tuesday. The Vandals added two road wins later in the week, defeating Ray 14-9 and routing Pima 16-1. Safford -- The weekend offered special needs athletes the opportunity to qualify for the state games, and have fun with school friends.
Safford High School's track played host to the annual Sports Fest with Unified Partners on Friday, and the Special Olympics Monument Area track and field games on Saturday.

Local Cub Scouts hold 51st Annual Pinewood Derby
