GLOBE — Stella Tarango is a senior at Globe High School and is a member of the Globe Track team. Last year, Tarango placed second in the discus event at the 3A state championship.
Tarango is preparing to compete in the Down Under International Sports games to be held in Australia June 27 to July 9. High school athletes from the United States, New Zealand and Australia will be competing in track and field events.
She is the only girl from the state of Arizona entered in the shot put and discus events, who will be a part of the U.S. track and field team that will travel down under this summer.
Tarango is currently raising money to offset the expenses of participating in the games. The goal is to raise $5,000. After competing, Tarango and the entire U.S. team will go to Hawaii for an additional three days.
Stella Tarango’s family is selling cheeseboats to raise money for the trip. Cheeseboats are $10 for a half dozen or $20 for a full dozen. Those purchasing a full dozen will also receive a $2 raffle ticket with the chance to win an all-expenses paid trip to the Down Under Sports competition. To place an order for cheeseboats or to purchase a raffle ticket, please contact Christine at 928-200-1159.
