MIAMI — This year’s Vandal tennis team will be younger than usual, but will have the years of experience of the long-time tennis coach, Cherry Roberds, to guide it.

This year 21 girls and nine boys have come out for the team. There are only three seniors, all girls, who are returning for the team.

The boys team is comprised of all newcomers. There are also a number of foreign exchange students who are on the team, including students from Germany, Chile, and Thailand.

So far, the girls’ team is 2-0 and the boys are 0-2.

Players to watch for include Courtney Canez, a senior bringing her years of experience to the team; Joy Wilson, and Kindra Holliday, who are both learning quickly.

Roberds has been coaching the Miami tennis team for more than 45 years. She is a Miami High School alumna and also played tennis at both the high school and college levels.

On March 11, Miami will host the tennis team from Tombstone. Matches will begin at 11 a.m.
