Senior Denesha Rodriquez continues her winning streak at the Globe home cross country invitational.
Globe — Globe High School cross country team hosted its first home meet of the season last Wednesday at the Globe Community Center. A total of seven teams participated in the meet: Globe, Canyon State Academy, San Manuel, Coolidge, San Carlos, Cibecue, and Mingus Mountain Academy.

The Globe girls team did not have enough girls to make a complete girls team for this meet, but neither did any of the other teams so the girls ran as individuals and competed for medals. The top 15 runners received medals and all three Lady Tigers medaled in this meet. The girls ran a good race and stayed competitive with the rest of the girls. Denesha Rodriguez won the meet and remains undefeated so far this season.

The boys did well also. According to Globe coaches, “this course is the toughest course in the region and proved to be a challenge for all of the boys.”

Aaron Gourdin was able to gain a first place lead just after the one mile mark and maintained that lead to earn a first place finish. Stosh Hatch finished less than 30 seconds behind him to capture third. Nathan Mancha and Noah Gardea ran their best times of the season. Angelo Guevara and Jeremy Bahe continue to close the gap between the first and sixth place runners to help out our team score. This boys’ team has worked hard on hills in practice and their hard work payed off for them this week.

“We are looking forward to traveling to the Willcox invitational next Wednesday and the Alchesay Invitational next Friday,” said Assistant Coach Denise Barajas. “It will be a busy week for us, but will provide some excellent competition prior to our Sectional meet at the end of October. We would like to thank everyone who came out to support us this week at our first home meet of the season and invite everyone to come out to our next home meet on Oct. 19 at the Community Center.”
