During World War II she taught elementary students at the Gila River Japanese internment camp in Arizona. In 1943 she married Francis S. Frederick and they moved to California. She started teaching for Stockton Unified School District (SUSD) in 1947.
She taught full time while raising her four daughters (Patricia, Jo, Anne and Paula). She served on various boards and committees and earned her California Special Education Certificate in 1960. She helped shape the SUSD Special Education Program from 1961 until her first retirement in 1980 at age 62.

In 1987 her Special Education co-workers nominated her for special recognition and the SUSD School Board agreed and renamed a school after her: The Jane L. Frederick Continuation High School. Jane was truly touched by this honor.
She delighted in being the new face at the school. The culinary students named their café Jane’s Café. Jane was pleased to attend the graduating ceremonies over the years that followed.
