Clyde Buchanan, 88

Posted: Tuesday, Oct 2nd, 2012

Clyde Buchanan was born in Washington County, Ohio, and passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2012 at St. Luke’s Medical Center in Phoenix, at the age of 88.  His high school sweetheart and wife of 67 years, Beatrice Buchanan, passed away last year.

He will be greatly missed by his son, Craig Buchanan (Margie) of Oracle, Ariz., and his daughter, Janice Marques (Dan Sorensen) of Mount Aukum, Calif.

After graduating from high school Clyde became one of many in the Greatest Generation to join the U.S. Navy and fight for his country in World War II.  He was serving as an airplane mechanic on the aircraft carrier BonHomme Richard in the Pacific when the war ended in 1945. He then returned to Ohio, earned a degree in engineering, built a house for his young family, and became a television engineer.

He fell in love with Arizona after visiting relatives there, and moved his family to Tucson in 1953. He continued to work in television until he retired at age 50 and moved to Roosevelt Lake, which was home base for the rest of his life.

Clyde was an avid outdoorsman and a highly skilled hunter and fisherman. He took his family on countless camping, boating and 4X4 adventures around Arizona and on many fishing trips to Cholla Bay on the Sonoran coast. He was an accomplished bass fisherman who not only won tournaments but helped many others find the fish in Roosevelt Lake. He was also an exceptional mechanic who could design, build or fix anything, other than computers. But most of all Clyde was “good people.” He was a helpful neighbor, a thoughtful and generous friend, a great hunting and fishing buddy, and a wonderful husband and father. He instilled in his children many important values, including self-reliance, honesty, compassion and respect for others, love of country, and a powerful appreciation of nature.

A private service to remember and celebrate Clyde’s life will be held at a later date.

Funeral arrangements for Clyde Buchanan were entrusted to Miles Funeral Services Globe.
