Julia S. Steinke, age 85 of Globe, Ariz. passed away on Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013 at Hospice Green house in Phoenix, Ariz. She was born in Globe, Ariz. on Nov. 7, 1927, the daughter of Jacinto and Esther (Oria) Salcines, both from Spain.
She was raised on the Burch Dairy Ranch, which her parents owned. Julia worked very hard on the ranch along with her two brothers and many employees. In 1947 she was elected the Queen of the Miami Boomtown Spree. She graduated from Globe High School in 1946 and had one year of college. She met the love of her live, Frank William Steinke, married him on Feb. 19, 1949 and their marriage lasted 53 years until his passing in 2002.
Julia worked more than 15 years at the Real Market in Miami, and also at Tony Nawfell Store. She loved playing Bingo at the Miami Elks Lodge in the 60’s and 70’s, although her favorite pass time was going to the Casino and doing crossword puzzles. She enjoyed her daily mornings at Judy’s Cookhouse, having coffee, visiting friends and talking with the waitresses. She spent a lot of quality time with her grandkids helping them with their homework.
Julia is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Frank W. Steinke in 2002; her son, Mark W. Steinke; and her brother, Jack Salcines.
Julia is survived by her daughters, Susan M. Willis (Dale) and Judy Ann Bibens (Charles), her son, Frank B. Steinke (Lydia), all of Globe; her brother, Benny Salcines of Austin, Texas; 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013 from 8 to 10 a.m. at Lamont Mortuary Chapel in Globe.
Funeral Services will follow at 10 a.m. at the chapel.
Interment will be at Pinal Cemetery in Central Heights, Ariz.
