Arthur Gillam Cochrane, Jr., 83

Arthur Gillam Cochrane, Jr., of San Luis Obispo, Calif., born May 5, 1929 in Globe, Ariz., passed away Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013.

Arthur was raised and grew up in the Globe-Miami area and graduated from Globe High School in 1948. He served in the U.S. Navy from June, 1948 to May, 1952. Arthur attended and graduated Cal Poly University in San Luis Obispo, Calif. when it was then a men-only campus.

Over the years, Arthur had a variety of jobs, including hauling fuel for Union 76, working major construction, shoeing horses, exercising and hauling polo ponies, and selling veterinary supplies. He retired from selling Rumilix cattle supplement. He was a rodeo cowboy and had a PRCA Gold Card status. His event was Steer Wrestling.

Arthur (aka Art aka Arturo) had a gift for speaking Italian (Piedmontese dialect) and Spanish and enjoyed having a chance to speak either whenever he could. He enjoyed taking care of his horses and dogs and his miniature burro. He also liked visiting family and friends, making wine and reading.

Arthur is survived by his brother, Allen Cochrane; son, Clint Cochrane; daughter-in-law, Leah Cochrane; daughter, Lisa Stamey; and granddaughters, Shannon Stamey and Tyree Cochrane. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mona Cochrane; his father, Gillam Cochrane; and mother, Lucy Cochrane.

A celebration and remembrance will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013 at the Jones Ranch Arena in Morro Bay, Calif. Rain or shine. Cowboy up. There will also be a celebration and remembrance in Globe, Ariz. on Feb. 23, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the Elks Lodge.
