Frank Romo Chavez was born March 9, 1917, in Chihuahua, Mexico, to Octoviano Chavez and Soledad Romo.
He attended Hayden, Ariz. schools, graduating from Hayden High School in 1937. In August 1938, he married his high school sweetheart, Esther Lomeli.
They stayed in Hayden until October, 1941. Then with their first son, Danny, they left for Los Angeles, Calif. to attend barber college.
In May 1942, Frank received his barberís license and started working in Miami. In June, son Eddie was born in Miami. Later, son Randy was born and last, but not least, Valerie was born.
In 1955, Frank built his own barber shop in Miami, where he worked until he retired in 1982. He worked for 40 years at barbering. Frank was very active in his church and community. He was the first President of the Miami Holy Name Society Chapter, Grand Knight of the Miami Knights of Columbus Chapter and past Faithful Navigator of the 4th Degree Globe-Miami-Superior Chapter.
Frank was the first elected Hispanic school board member in the Miami School District. He was also past president of the Miami Lions Club. An avid traveler, Frank visited numerous countries with his late wife, Esther.
They traveled to Europe, the Holy Land, Egypt, Mexico, Canada, Hawaii and visited 41 states. In 2002, they moved to Phoenix because of Frankís failing health and to be closer to their children.
Frank was preceded in death by his wife of 74 years, the late Esther Lomeli Chavez; his parents; five brothers, Carlos, Guillermo, Salvador, Antonio and Melesio; and sisters, Carmen and Celia Gomez.
Frank Romo Chavez leaves behind in loving memory four children, Danny Chavez and his wife, Katie, of Moreno Valley, Calif.; Eddie Chavez and his wife, Brenda, of Phoenix, Ariz., Randy Chavez and his wife, Janet, of Flagstaff, Ariz., and Valerie Makarsky and her husband, David, of Laurel, Md.; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; nine great-great grandchildren; and many other extended family members and close friends.
Visitation was held at on Tuesday, March 12, 2013, at 9:30 a.m. at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament, located at 844 W. Sullivan St., Miami, Ariz.
Rosary followed at 10 a.m., with Mass at 10:30 a.m.
Interment at Mountain Breeze Memorial Gardens, Miami-Superior Highway, Miami, Ariz.
