Robert Emiliano Benavidez, age 64, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 26, 2013, at his own home in Miami, Ariz. Robert was born May 22, 1948, in Jerome, Ariz., to Reynalda Archibeque and Nicasio Benavidez.
Robert mainly grew up in New Mexico. He spent his teenage years on his family’s ranch in Perro Tejano, N.M. Later on, Robert married Maria in Las Vegas, N.M., in 1973, and they then moved to San Manuel, Ariz. He worked in Magma (then BHP) Mine, until his retirement in 1999.
Robert moved to Miami, Ariz., where he made so many dear friends. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, Olivia Rose, Patricia, and Max. He also loved the cowboy life, riding horses, and being outdoors whenever he could. He was an active member of the Sheriff’s Posse in San Manuel. He was most proud of his beautiful wife of 40 years, Maria; and his three daughters: Joy Gonzales, Lorie Benavidez, and Vickie Benavidez.
Robert was a humble and light-hearted man who always had a smile on his face. Anyone blessed to have known him, knew he was the kind of man to give you the shirt off his back. Robert didn’t take life too seriously; he was a jokester. He found strength in our Lord and believed that the love of his wife, daughters, and grandbabies was what made life worth living.
He was a devoted Catholic and went to church every Sunday, until the Lord called him home. He will always be missed by his loving family and friends.
Robert is survived by his wife, Maria Benavidez, of Miami, Ariz.; daughters, Joy (Daryl Villano) Gonzales, of Miami, Lorie (Bianca Ramos) Benavidez, of Bisbee, Ariz., and Victoria Benavidez, of Miami; brothers, Chris (Terry) Benavidez, of Miami, Phillip (Amy) Benavidez, of Oracle, Ariz., and Johnny (Geri) Benavidez, of Oracle, Ariz.; and sister, Rosemary (Manuel) Gallegos of Gonzales Ranch, N.M.; and three grandchildren.
Robert is preceded in death by his parents, Renalda Archibeque and Nicasio Benavidez.
