Globe — Last month, one and a half years after Prop 203 was approved by Arizona voters, the Arizona State Department of Health and Services began accepting medical marijuana dispensary applications.
The move paves the way for a more regulated distribution of medical marijuana in the state of Arizona, an original intent of Prop 203, which has been held up in courts since the passing of the legislation back in November 2010.
An announcement is expected in early August as to which cities or towns will be allowed a dispensary, and Globe is the only city within its Community Health Analysis Area (CHAA) to submit a qualified dispensary application.
The Department of Health reported on its website that it accepted “hundreds of applications during the May, 2012 timeframe.” In compliance with R9-17-302 of the Arizona Medical Marijuana Act (AMMA), “If only one complete and compliant application is received for a dispensary in a CHAA, that applicant will be awarded a certificate.”
