Copper Youth Basketball League tries for expansion

Posted: Wednesday, Aug 15th, 2012

Globe-Miami — Copper Cities Youth Basketball league is a non-profit organization dedicated to youth sports in the Globe, Miami and San Carlos areas. CYBL’s mission is to provide a safe, fun and educational enviroment for the youth of our communities.

CYBL’s goal is to instill self-esteem, self-worth and pride in our youth by offering a means by which they can further their athletic and social skills as young people through the participation in a sports league that promotes diversity and individuality.

People in the community may know CYBL and the Executive Board members from the basketball league that they created. The Executive Board consists of nine diverse members of the community who have proven their dedication to the community for youth sports.

After the success of the Basketball league, others in the community have asked that the CYBL try to bring more sports programs into the area. This goal would without a doubt require a lot of help from the community.

At 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 21, 2012 the CYBL will be hosting a meeting at the Gila County courthouse in the Board of Supervisors room. All members of the community are encouraged to attend.

President Larry Anthony, Jr. and Vice President Joe Barajas will be conducting a power point presentation, during which they will be asking the community which sports they would like to see come to the local area.

Once again, this would require volunteers and help from the community. For every sport created, the league would need a minimum of five volunteers to help chair that sport.

If the CYBL doesn’t get support or volunteers, they simply would not be able to bring more sports to the area.

Not only would this be a good opportunity for the community by having more sports programs, but this may also provide an economic benefit to the community by hosting tournaments in the area. These are just a couple of benefits for the community.

Now is a great time to help your community. Join CYBL in this effort to bring more sports programs to our community and show up at the meeting to give your ideas or volunteer to assist them in accomplishing this task.
