Mary Mendez Salas, a lifelong resident of Salas Lane/Ruiz Canyon in Globe, passed away July 2, 2012 at Heritage Health Care Center in Globe. She was born and raised here and was a graduate of Globe High School.
Mary worked at the Woolworths’ Store in Globe for 10 years before attending beauty school. Upon her return, she worked in her sisters’ beauty salon, Rose’s Beauty Salon here in Globe. Even after Rose’s retirement, Mary continued to work there and put in approximately 25 years total at the salon.
One of her greatest thrills came from the opportunity to see the Pope when he came to Phoenix and also Sister Teresa on a visit she made to the Valley. A lifetime member of Holy Angels Catholic Church, she was a member of the choir as a young woman and the Holy Angels Order of Sodality, which prepares food for receptions held for different church functions. She loved to quilt, crochette, knit, and do just about any kind of craft. She also really enjoyed her visits to the Globe Senior Citizens Center. She was also adored by her many nieces and nephews, whom she loved to spoil.
Funeral services were held Saturday, July 7, 2012 at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Globe. Interment was in Globe Cemetery next to her beloved sisters. The family suggests donations be made to: Holy Angels Sodality, 201 S. Broad St., Globe, AZ 85501. Assisting the family; Lamont Mortuary of Globe.
