Mary Culpepper Bozzola, 83, died on Aug. 24, 2012, at Heritage Health Care Center in Globe after succumbing to the ravages of dementia. She was born on Dec. 14, 1928, in Ardmore, Okla., the youngest in a family of eight children.
She moved to Globe in 1945 with her father, Charles Cleveland Culpepper, and her older sister, Jane. Mary graduated from Globe High School in 1946 and began working at Heron’s Insurance; she worked in that field most of her adult life.
Mary and her sister married brothers, Reggie and Harold Bozzola, and she had five nieces and nephews in the Bozzola family as well as 12 on the Culpepper side. Mary’s life was Reggie, and they enjoyed stock car racing, water skiing, college football, country music, and road trips.
After Reggie died in 1983, Mary turned her attention to professional football and NASCAR. She was an ardent fan of Jeff Gordon, Joe Montana, and Kevin Costner. She continued her love for travel and longed to be a beach bum.
Her primary love in her declining years, however, was her great nephew, Joshua, who represented the son she and Reggie never had. Mary’s soft voice and her quiet laughter belied her strength of character, and many in Globe loved and admired her.
Mary is survived by her nieces, Triss David of Globe, Vicki Bozzola of North Carolina, Nancy Anbar of Oregon, and Kathy Wolf of Globe; her nephew, Ray Bozzola of Globe; her great nephews, Joshua David, and his children, Jeremiah and Gwenevere of Globe; Haitham Anbar of Saudi Arabia; and her great nieces Melissa Bozzola of Globe, Raelynn Rife of Gilbert; and Ida Danks of Oregon. In lieu of flowers, donations to Louie E. Higdon Post 1704 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars would be a fitting tribute to Mary and Reggie Bozzola.
Private family services will be held at a later date.
Funeral arrangements for Mary Culpepper Bozzola were entrusted to Miles Funeral Services, Globe.
