Globe — On Friday evening at Harbison Field the Globe Tigers went up against the Alchesay Falcons for what would be Globe’s next big win of the season. The Tigers, who took the field without their star player Jonny Rentaria, proved that even without their whole team, they were able to overcome yet another obstacle this season. Jonny, whose near 800 yards this season have without a doubt contributed to Globe’s awesome record, was benched after a particularly hard hit and possible concussion against Thatcher. He said: “The guys will be able to handle the Falcons without me, I’m not worried.”

And that is exactly what the Tigeres did. From the first kickoff, which yielded an impressive 40 yard return, the boys showed Alchesay that they came to win. The Tigers ran for a 13-yard touchdown to put them in the lead and from then on, it was the Tigers’ game throughout.

A big congratulations to Lane Phillips who, aside from scoring a touchdown of his own, also had one of the best tackles of the season. Also, teammate Darnell Belvado, who showed good sportsmanship and respect by helping up a fallen Falcon he had knocked down.

The final score was 28-0, giving the Tigers a well-deserved victory and bringing their record to 4-1. Lane Phillips was able to give a few quick words to the Silver Belt, saying: “With Jonny gone, I had to step it up, but with the help of the team, we took the win. The underclassmen really came into their own, too. I think next week’s Morenci game will go our way. We know we’re underdogs, but I think we really have a shot.”

The Globe Tigers will play again Friday, Sept. 28 at Harbison Field for their Homecoming game against Morenci. Kickoff will be at 7 p.m. Earlier in the day, the Homecoming parade will be held at 1 p.m. in downtown Globe.
