The Phoenix AIDS Walk brings together thousands of people from every walk of life. This year’s Walk will be on Sunday, Oct. 21, at 9 a.m. in downtown Phoenix. The AIDS Walk is 3 miles in length. For the first time, I created “Team San Carlos Apache.” I have invited all tribal council members and the health department to participate in this special event. I want to extend the invitation to everyone on the San Carlos Apache Reservation. The only other tribe to enter is Pascua Yaqui. People participate for a number of reasons: to remember those who died of AIDS complications, to support people living with HIV/AIDS, to raise funds for AIDS service organizations, or just to learn more. I spent countless hours making four banners, this is only one. If anyone wants to walk or carry these banners please let me know. If there’s enough people I hope the tribal council or health department can arrange transportation so our people can experience something of this magnitude which involves learning more about HIV/AIDS that cannot be taught on the reservation. Our people in San Carlos have been greatly impacted by HIV/AIDS in recent years. I personally know a great number of tribal members living with HIV/AIDS. Please take this opportunity to join “Team San Carlos” on Oct. 21. You may learn more by logging on to www.aidswalkphoenix.org or by emailing me at isadoreboni@yahoo.com. As a survivor, compassion has been more healing than any medications I have taken over the past 10 years. Please join Team San Carlos Apache!
