Miami Veterans Day ceremony was a success

Posted: Tuesday, Nov 13th, 2012

Dear Editor:

I want to personally thank all the people who entered and participated in the Town of Miami's Veterans Day Parade, Ceremony, and Cookout.

We ended up signing up folks minutes before the parade started. Town of Miami Police Department, Globe High School JROTC (2nd place), Globe Fire Department, Town of Miami Fire Department, Miami High School Marching Band, Miami Fiesta Queens, Girl Scouts 1796, 1967 TDSW Jeep, Friends of Horizon Human Services (first place), David and Barbara Elack from Mesa, Ariz., Gilbert Renteria, Cub Scouts Pack 86 and Crew 5131, the Garlinghouse Family, Canizales Family, Town of Miami Public Works Department, Gila County Cinderella's, Rico, Rico Secretarial Service (third place) and Copper Country Drill Team all took part in the parade.

I want to thank the employees in Miami Town Hall for passing out and receiving parade entry forms, Town Manager Jerry Barnes for his support, Wes Sukosky for getting the tables, chairs, and entering two Public Works vehicles in the parade, Vice Mayor Susan Hanson, Debbie Thompson, Mayor Castaneda and Sharon Licano.  There must have been others I cannot remember who helped out but I cannot remember each person. I want to just say, “Thank your to all the volunteers who helped in the celebration.”

The entire Veterans Day celebration in Miami was a community event. It involved both high schools and it was an educational event.

I really appreciate seeing such a big crowd at the event because it was very cold that morning. The last thank you is to the Veterans who are currently serving our country and for those Veterans who served our country in the past.

Darryl S. Dalley
