Gila County — Gila County Supervisors gave their approval last week as the final step in making the Cobre Valley Community Transit system more effective.
The board granted $25,000 to the Town of Miami, which administers the program. Miami Town Manager Jerry Barnes told the supervisors about a study done through the Arizona Department of Transportation earlier this year.
The study concluded that what is currently referred to as the “Dial-a-Ride” system can be easily converted into a “deviated fixed route system.” The two mini vans currently in use will follow a specific route starting on each end of the county. Meanwhile, there will be smaller vehicles picking up passengers within three-quarters of a mile from the main route. These vehicles will serve people with disabilities or other circumstances that make it impossible for them to come to the fixed route.
