Miami The Lady Vandals basketball teamkicked off their season last Tuesday against the ladies of San Carlos in a game that proved action-packed and full of surprises for both of these well-prepared and skilled teams. Miamis girls are coached by Brandi White this year and have been working relentlessly to prepare themselves for the trials this season, one of them being the Lady Braves, coached by Crytsal Pietila. After the dust settled and the clock ticked away its last numbers the score stood at 44-34, with San Carlos taking the win for the night.

Though both teams worked the entire game to the max, San Carlos was without a doubt dominant, as their speed and well-placed passes stood out as Miami tried their best to keep the ball in their court.

The Vandals this year consist of ( ) returning seniors, nine juniors eight sophomores and five freshmen, all of whom are still excited for what is to come. Senior Samantha Jernigan said: Im really excited to play Florence; its really great having the same coach. The younger girls are really doing well and developing their skills. I know when they reach where I am now, they will really be great.

Fellow senior player Adriana Tarango agreed, saying: Im looking forward to having our team communicate better and having better passes than we did last year. Last year we had one player who was the star and Id like to see everyone just step up and show what they can really do.

Newcomer to the team, freshman Brooke Price said: Im really looking forward to playing Globe and practicing more with Brandi and the older girls, who are really helping us out.

Junior Aubree Castaneda said: Im excited for the games and to watch everyone grow and get better. Everybody is practicing really well and well just keep getting better.

And senior player Maleigha Ramos said: I think next time we play them it will go a lot better; we learned a lot of things tonight and we will hopefully get them next time. The score will be very different at least.

The Lady Vandals played again last night against Ray and will be taking on the Lady Tigers in Globe today, Wednesday, Nov. 28 at 5:30 p.m. Good luck ladies and have a fun and safe season.
