Miriam Allen Lessels passed away on Nov. 26, 2012. Raised in sophisticated Washington, D.C., she fell in love and married Henry Allen, Jr., an Arizona “westerner.”
They moved west and raised their two sons in the mining town of Miami, Ariz. After 30 years of marriage, when they were both relatively young, Henry unexpectedly passed away. A few years later Miriam and Virgil Lessels, a longtime friend and neighbor in the 1940s, reconnected and were married. They moved from Miami to Green Valley in 1987.
Miriam was blessed to be married to two wonderful men for about 30 years each. Miriam spent her time raising her children, volunteering at her church and playing her much loved game, bridge. She delighted in telling her bridge friends that she did not know, “modern bridge,” so she could hear their response, “yes, but you always win.”
She developed many friends while living at La Poseda. Family was the most important component of her life. She became a friend and developed a close loving relationship with Virgil’s children and grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at St. Francis on Jan. 19, 2013 with internment at Pinal Cemetery in Globe on Jan. 20, 2013. Donations may be made to the Green Valley Community Food Bank or the White Elephant. She is survived by two sons, Frank (Jere), Bill (Susy); four grandchildren, Stephanie, Jeff, Christie and Cindy; and three great grandchildren.
