John Stephen Cline, 75

John Stephen Cline, 75, of Tonto Basin, Ariz. died Dec. 8, 2012 in Scottsdale, Ariz. He was the only child born to “Doc” Benjamin Cline and Dorothy Herman Wells on Dec. 27, 1936 in Phoenix, Ariz. He was raised in Tonto Basin and he and his family have been ranching there for the last six generations. “Steve” is survived by his two sons Chris and Mark Cline, Chris’s wife Jeannie Morris Cline, his five grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren.

Steve was preceded in death by his first wife, Arlene S. Starks Cline; his second wife, Jean Ann Jones Cline; and his parents, Doc and Dorothy Cline.

Steve was a founding member and President of the Gila County Cattle Growers Association, a member of the Mesa Varmint Callers, and a member and one time president of the Bird Busters of Payson Inc. He shot in the Senior Olympics Skeet Shoot at the Fort McDowell Club and twice placed in the top 10. Steve was also an avid hunter and an excellent marksman.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 15, at the Tonto Basin Elementary School.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that everyone please donate in Steve’s name to the Lorraine Cline Memorial Fund. This is a local cancer fund that financially assists fellow residents of Gila County who have been diagnosed with cancer. Please send donations to: PO Box 369, Tonto Basin, AZ 85553.
