Former Miami resident Esther Lomeli Chavez, 93, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2013, at Phoenix Mountain Nursing Center in Phoenix, Ariz. She was born in Hayden, Ariz. on Jan. 13, 1919, the daughter of Sara (Escalante) and Trinidad Lomeli.
She attended Hayden School and graduated from high school May 1938, as valedictorian. In August of the same year she married her high school sweetheart, Frank Chavez and had four children. In 1941, they went to Los Angeles where Frank attended Barber College. They moved back to Arizona, where Frank opened his first Barber Shop in Miami.
They lived there for 60 years, then on to Phoenix where they could be closer to their family. Esther and Frank celebrated their 74th wedding anniversary last Aug. 21, 2012. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Rafael and Conrado; sister Vicki Parra and four infant siblings. Esther leaves behind in loving memory her husband Frank; her four children Frank Daniel Chavez and his wife Katie, Joe Edward Chavez and his wife Brenda, James Randolph Chavez and his wife Janet and Valerie Marie Makarsky and her husband David; eight granddaughters, one grandson, 12 great grandchildren and nine great-great grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013 at 9 a.m. at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament, 844 W. Sullivan St., Miami, Ariz.
Rosary was held on Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013 at 9:30 a.m. at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament, Miami, Ariz.
Mass was held on Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament, Miami, Ariz.
Interment at Mountain Breeze Memorial Gardens, Miami, Ariz.
