Miami resident Alice Marie Demichelis, 87, passed away Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013, at Lund Family Hospice Home in Gilbert, Ariz. She was born on June 18, 1925 at the home of her parents, John and Laura Schaefer-Wachter in Milo, Iowa.
She attended Milo High School and played basketball, loved to sew and was known to be a tomboy. She met her future husband John Demichelis at a family picnic. They dated for two years and married on June 10, 1944 and had six children. They lived on a farm in Iowa and raised livestock and farmed various oats and beans.
They moved to Arizona in 1961, and lived there for 51 years. Alice’s hobbies were sewing, volunteering at nursing homes, traveling and she was a devoted parishioner at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church. She was a selfless caregiver, loved to quilt, and gamble.
She celebrated her 50th wedding anniversary with her husband John in February of 1994.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, James Wachter and Lefty Wachter and a sister, Evelene Ohnemus. Alice leaves behind in loving memory her six children, Bobby Demichelis, Gary Demichelis, Richard Demichelis and wife, Arlene, Bernard Demichelis and wife, Ramona, and Nancy Demichelis, and Kathy Fischer and her husband, Gary; as well as 13 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Harold Wachter and wife, Betty; and a sister, Maryann Ohnemus and husband Bob.
Visitation will be at 9 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013 at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament, 844 W. Sullivan St., Miami, Ariz.
Rosary will follow at 9:30 a.m. with Mass at 10 a.m., both at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament, Miami, Ariz.
Interment at Globe Cemetery, Hackney Avenue, Globe, Ariz.
