Phoenix — Officials of Freeport-McMoRan Copper and Gold, Inc., said they have no comment at this time on last week’s major Supreme Court decision which now imposes very strict regulations for the continued operations of the two copper smelters here in southern Gila County and power plants operating elsewhere.
Freeport had said earlier, in paperwork filed with this court case, it would have to spend hundreds of millions of dollars installing pollution control systems at its copper smelter at Miami in order to comply with the new tougher changes in EPA requirements.
