Sadly, the nay-sayers and obstructionists in Miami, Ariz. have a strong following. They truly believe, and are able to convince others, that only THEIR contributions from the (often distant) past have any value — then, now, into infinity and beyond.
The town council’s 4-3 vote to compromise upon a questionable veteran’s memorial design constructed sometime in the 1980s, and hopefully move forward with the building of an additional memorial that will honor the REAL heroes of this project — our veterans — shows that there is still some small hope for the future of Miami.
Special thanks to Mayor Castaneda for suggesting that the nay-sayers and obstructionists step up and take some responsibility for the current memorial that they claim to value so highly — maybe clean and polish the current memorial or perhaps dip into their own pockets (as others have done) to replace the flags that regularly beat themselves to rags upon one another because of a flawed design in the placement of the “flagpoles,” which are actually recycled street lights. Go figure.
