Reader laments return of thieves at cemetery

Posted: Tuesday, Apr 23rd, 2013

Dear Editor:

Well, it appears the thieves are back at the Globe Cemetery!

A few years ago this same issue came up. Statues, solar lamps, vases and flowers placed on graves by loved ones, were stolen off of many of the graves. After many letters to the editor and gates being put up by the city, the looting ceased. Now the thieves are back.

Ten years ago I began taking a large heavy decorative vase to my husband's grave for special occasions: birthdays, Father's Day, Easter, Memorial Day and Christmas. I would fill it with fresh velveteen flowers and write a special message on it each time. When I went to the graveyard after this Easter, I was shocked to find the vase gone!

My heart is broken. To whoever took my vase and flowers: I hope you enjoy them more than the pleasure and peace they gave to me each time I put them on my loved one's grave. But remember karma. What goes around, comes around.
