Family and friends of the late Justin Hooke gathered last Saturday for a Remembrance Event. Hooke, former President of the San Carlos Apache Youth Council, died two years ago in a one-vehicle accident along Route 6. The circumstances leading up to his death are now the subject of a multi-million dollar lawsuit for wrongful death. Family and friends cleaned the area near the crash site, set up a more visible memorial and put up a sign that says “Friends don’t let friends drive drunk.”
San Carlos — On April 23, Judge Thomas A. Zlaket, reporting for the San Carlos Apache Tribal Court, denied the “various motions to dismiss” the lawsuit in the Justin Hooke case.

Carol and Samuel Hooke, parents of Justin, filed a lawsuit last year against San Carlos Gaming Enterprises, Inc., San Carlos Apache Tribe, Tao Etpison, Toby Talkalai and Elaine Talkalai.
