‘They were informed’ says MUSD superintendent

Miami — News spread like a wildfire of the letting go of long-time teacher and coach Cherry Roberds from the MUSD payroll. While students organized protests and rumors spread of a conspiracy to bring in family members to fill the positions, MUSD superintendent Sherry Dorathy told the Silver Belt, “They were informed.”

“They” refers to staff members who retired from the district and were hired back to fill positions for which highly qualified applicants could not be found.

According to Dorathy, the action should not come as a surprise. Years ago, the Arizona state legislature passed a bill, allowing school districts to hire back retired staff members.
