Globe — The Globe Council received an amendment to the City Code from City Attorney William Sims that clarifies what constitutes an abandoned vehicle.
When the City Code was amended a few years ago, the existing language allowed police to enforce the code only if a vehicle was parked on a sidewalk. The amended section allows city police to enforce the abandoned vehicle section to any vehicle parked on City property and all right of ways.
Also clarified were the reasons for a vehicle to be labeled abandoned. They are:
the vehicle cannot be started with its own battery; the vehicle is on blocks or similar devices; the vehicle has a deflated tire or tires; a wheel or tire has been removed on the vehicle; the vehicle does not have a current, fully paid registration from the State of Arizona; or it is a partially or wholly dismantled vehicle.
