These are four things that have no place in government or non-profit groups.
Graft, a form of political corruption, is the unscrupulous use of a politician’s authority for personal gain.
Abuse of Power is improper use of authority by someone who has that authority because he or she holds a public office or position.
Conflict of interest occurs when an individual or organization is involved in multiple interests, one of which could possibly corrupt the motivation for an act in another.
Last but not least is Nepotism. Nepotism is favoritism granted to relatives regardless of merit. Regardless of whether or not an official or some in public service does a “great job” in certain areas of their sworn duties, if they are engaging in any conduct listed above, they lack the integrity it takes to be suitable for public service or office. Dismissing this type of conduct, diluting the definitions of this type of conduct to excuse the actions of family, friends or those we favor, deteriorates the quality of our government as a whole and is ultimately leading to the demise of our country.
