Hundreds attend ceremony for Velez San Carlos Apache Lorenzo family accepts traditional role in the White Mountains

Whiteriver — The family and friends of Sherilyn and Louie Lorenzo, Jr., traveled on Aug. 1-4 from the Bylas community to the beautiful Stago Pass and Tortice Cornfield, within the White Mountain Apache Reservation, to witness an Apache traditional puberty rite ceremony honoring 13-year-old Natania Velez.
