Globe — The results of the Primary Election, held on Aug. 27, were made official at Monday’s Globe City Council meeting. Roberta Johnson won for District 3 with 52 percent of the votes, District 4 saw Desmond Baker take 39 percent of the votes, and in District 6 Lerry Alderman Alderman ran unopposed. Proposition 300 (Home Rule) passed with 64 percent of the vote.
However, there will have to be a recount in District 4 because the second, third and fourth place results so close. Mike Stapleton, with 24 votes, came in just one vote ahead of Sam Palmer and Bernard Wohlforth, who both had 23 votes. According to state statute, if candidates finish within 10 votes of one another there must be a recount.
The recount took place on Tuesday, Sept. 10, but results were not available by press time. If the results change, the council will have five to 10 days to make the results official and if they do not, council will just take the results they already made official. Baker and whoever finishes in second place place out of Stapleton, Wohlforth and Palmer will face off in a runoff election in November. For the complete article see the 09-11-2013 issue.
