Tigers making progress, despite 43-26 loss

Posted: Tuesday, Sep 17th, 2013

The Globe offense gets set for a play against Florence on Friday, Sept. 13. The Gophers beat the Tigers 43-26 for their first win of the season. Globe dropped to 0-3, but had big performances from quarterback Joseph Burk and running back Brodie Nogare. Globe will face Miami in the “Copper Kettle” game at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 20, in Miami.

Globe — The Tigers fell to 0-3 Friday, after a 43-26 loss to Florence at Harbison Field, but it was their best played game of the season.

“They're getting a little better every week,” head coach Al Ocampo said. “We started out a little inexperienced and young, but we just need more time. We have a tough schedule. Our schedule is a lot tougher than it’s been in a long, long time. As long as the kids are improving each week, I'm pleased.”

The Tigers had big plays, but couldn’t capitalize on them. In the third quarter, down 30-7, Globe had a five minute possession that started on their own 35-yard line.

After running nine plays, it was second and eight at the Gopher 23, but the Tigers couldn’t hold on to the ball and turned it over for their second fumble of the game.

“We made some mistakes,” Ocampo said. “We probably should have had a couple more touchdowns up on the board, but that’s how it goes when you have an inexperienced team. It’s like the Supreme's song, ‘You Can't Hurry Love;’ it's the same thing in athletics, you can't hurry experience. When it happens it happens.”

Even with the loss, junior quarterback Joseph Burk and junior running back Brodie Nogare had big games for the Tigers. Nogare ran for 146 yards and a touchdown.

“I was trying to go out there and do what I was suppose to do,” Nogare said. “I think I did pretty good. I think the whole team did pretty good, especially my quarterback (Burk) over here.”
