Reader has good memories of drive-in theater

Posted: Tuesday, Oct 1st, 2013

Dear Editor:

I read about the closing of the drive-in in the Tucson Daily Star and thought how sad for the community, but I understood the reason.

I worked for two summers at the Apache Drive-in the original location. My dad “Doc” Skinner and Frank Hollis were good friends. Frank ‘s daughter Diana and I were also good friends, so it was natural for me to work there.

It was a great place to work as a teenager. You were able to see your friends, watch movies for free, and of course flirt with the boys! On that subject, the manager known as “Noni “ would tell the boys to pick out what they wanted and move on. Then she would turn around and grin!

Every generation has its memories, but mine at the drive-in are especially fond. I wish the best for Pam, Diana, and Bob Hollis.
