San Carlos The 10th annual Run to the Rez, sponsored by the Geronimo Riders, will be held Oct. 18 and 19 in San Carlos.
Food, fun, scenery, entertainment, prizes the Run to the Rez has it all. The Run to the Rez was started 10 years ago by local Apache bikers who wanted to honor Apache Veterans who proudly served their country. Apache Gold Casino has sponsored the event for the last six years.
The cost of $30 includes a long-sleeve T-shirt, a concert ticket to see the Kentucky Headhunters, and one entry in the drawing for a brand new motorcycle.
The special guest speaker this year will be Ronnie Lupe, chairman of the White Mountain Apache Tribe.
This is the best run for the money that youll find, said event chairman John Bush. Its open to all bikers, and were expecting people from all over the Southwest and even as far as South Dakota. This event is all about honoring our veterans.
Here is a schedule of events:
Friday, Oct. 18
9 a.m. to 9 p.m.: Registration at Apache Gold Casino
9 a.m. to noon: Welcome Party in the Convention Center. Door prizes and music TBA free with wristband.
3 p.m.: Group Ride to San Carlos. Gathering on the Tribal Administration Lawn with prizes and music.
6 to 8 p.m.: Cultural Event at Convention Center
Saturday, Oct. 19
9 a.m.: Line-up for 10th Annual Run to the Rez
10 a.m.: Leave for San Carlos via Highway 70. Exit at Bashas turnoff, with police escort.
11 a.m.: Arrive at Burdette Hall in San Carlos, where event to honor all veterans will be held.
12:30 p.m.: Free barbecue luncheon for all participants and veterans at Burdette Hall.
1:30 p.m.: Poker Run begins and ends at Apache Gold Pavilion. There will be five stops.
4 p.m.: Bike Show in Apache Gold Pavilion
4 to 6 p.m.: Pre-concert party in Apache Gold Pavilion. Door prizes, music TBA.
7 p.m.: Doors open for concert. Concert is free with registration wristband.
8 p.m.: Concert by Grammy award-winning band Kentucky Headhunters.
After the concert will be the grand prize drawing for a new motorcycle.
