CCAB thanks community for support

Posted: Wednesday, Dec 11th, 2013

Dear Editor:

We, of the Copper Community Action Board, were overwhelmed with gratitude for the support the community showed us at the CCAB Community Concert on Nov. 16! We were expecting about 50 people to attend and were hoping for 100. All in all we had more than 150 people in attendance!

The concert’s performers shined like true stars, and we are very grateful to them for their volunteered time. The lineup included young local performers: Maria Avenetti, Ariella Borquez, Martina Borquez, Julianna Borquez, Johnny Angel (Silva) and Anissa Newman. Opening the show was the band Fathers and Sons (Peter Santa Maria, David Romero, Matthew Santa Maria, and Adrian Romero), performing Corrido de San Pedro, in tribute to Frank Amado.

Porter’s Ghost and Fathers and Sons played amazing sets in between. Seasoned performers Johnny Silva, Myra Fontes-Warren, Danny Fessenden, Monica Badillo, and Bernadette Muñoz also contributed to this magical night, as the talented Master of Ceremonies Luciano “Lucky” Romero guided us along.

Everyone from behind the scenes, doing admissions, concessions, spotlight (Annie Hinojos and Daniela Hinojos), doormen, ushers, security (Alonzo Ruiz) and producers backstage worked so well together. It seemed choreographed. It was not. It was just that kind of a special night where all the stars lined up just right.

We, at CCAB, are on our way to getting our 501c3 non-profit status, and we could not have done it without the support of the community. We are so thankful to the Hayden-Winkelman School District for allowing us to use the auditorium, their janitorial staff for their cleaning and assistance, and for the sponsors: Town of Winkelman, Robin Newman, Santa, Bill Loehr, Copper Basin Chamber of Commerce and Copper Corridor Economic Development Coalition for advertising, Copper Basin News, Copper Country News, and a great big thanks to Porter’s Ghost for their sound. If we have forgotten anyone, it was not intentional.

Remember, “If you want to lift yourself up, lift up someone else” — Booker T. Washington. VOLUNTEER today! Please contact us if you would like to volunteer with CCAB at coppercommunityactionboard@ymail.com.

Thank you and Happy Holidays from the CCAB Board.

Johnny Silva, Martina Burnam, Gloria Ruiz, Leysa Rought, Sonny

Orcasitas, Fred Ruiz and Veronica Bracamonte
