Gila County — Jerry Cano has been sentenced to 62 years in prison on three counts of kidnapping and one count of sexual abuse of minor.
In November, Cano had been found guilty on one count of Ongoing Sexual Abuse of a Child Under the Age of 14. The victim in this case was under the age of 7 when the abuse took place, and the 3 counts of kidnapping were for taking physical control over the victim for the purpose of committing the abuse.
The jury also found that the prosecution had proven the existence of two aggravators. First, the defendant caused serious harm to the victim, and second, he took advantage of his position as someone who was supposed to be trusted with the care of the children. Cano’s wife ran a DES daycare out of their home during the time of the abuse. Her license was suspended in 2012 due to the charges against her husband.
